What is 3D Archery? |
3D archery is an exciting game that combines target practice with real hunting scenarios. Instead of shooting traditional spot targets, the archer shoots field point tipped arrows at life-size 3 dimensional representations of animals. Understandably, the size of the 3D target varies depending upon the size of the animal; elk are much larger than raccoon. Typically, the larger the target, the further it gets placed away from the shooting stake - just as you might expect in a real world hunting situation. Similarly, all of the shooting distances are unknown. No matter what 3D target you are shooting, each has grooved lines, which represent vital areas and are used for scoring purposes. The scoring system used depends largely upon who is holding the competition. For instance, a club wishing to have their shoot sanctioned by the International Bowhunting Organization (IBO), will use a very defined scoring system. Many local clubs, including our own, opt instead for a more simple 20 – 15 – 5 scoring system. |

- Women
- Traditional: Recurve and long bows only, finger release, no sights
- Bare Bow: Compound OK, finger release, no sights

- Unlimited: no restrictions – no range finders
If you haven’t shot one of these challenging events before, we encourage you to try one of ours or other locally held shoots. |
